Southern blacks adopted redneck culture and brought it with them as they migrated to the north. Thomas Sowell points out that their immigrant contemporaries, freed slaves from the West Indies, did markedly better in Northern cities compared to Southern blacks who also migrated there. They held better paying jobs, opened businesses and held government positions.
