So I live in Dallas Ft Worth area and the local teams subreddits are full of people praising them for not playing out of protest. I know it’s just two days but I find myself less and less interested. I’m all for free speech and take a knee if you want to but the narratives are absurd. Painting America as some evil racist country is ridiculous.
Maybe the cops in the Blake and Floyd case weren’t totally in the right but the fact is that Floyd and Blake chose to put themselves in those situations.
As an almost 40 year old black guy I’ve been attacked for saying that maybe if we focused on the disturbing stats about black crime rates there wouldn’t be as many issues with cops. Or why not tell people to comply and not violently resist.
Finally it’s too bad the owners of these teams can’t say protest on your own time like my job would.
NHL has been my #1 sport for several years now. I've been to at least a couple hundred games. I've got all kinds of autographed stuff, jerseys, etc.
I'm just not sure I can do it anymore. All I wanted is just a few players, guys l thought I liked to have a spine and stand up against this pandering. They say they want to start a discussion yet actual discussion about facts, assumptions, what is good, what might could be better, next steps, etc. is totally shunned. The only accepted option to these people is to support riots, destruction, looting, and to vote for people that at the very least hunger for power and that you believe want to destroy the country you call home. If you don't submit to these things then how you've treated people and carried yourself your entire life is totally irrelevant, you are now evil. Period.
I just can't get my head around supporting organizations and people that stand behind this. It hurts to let go because I was so invested. I've met some of these guys and I respected some of them. Hell, video games are about the only thing I did for entertainment before that's even left--and who knows where that's going. If you'd call it a sport I've gotten a lot more into Formula 1 lately. Always followed a bit. Breath of fresh air honestly. There's some cuckery but the broadcast isn't constantly reminding me to support BLM and wear a mask. I have a huge respect for the drivers that stood up for themselves and said they would never condone racism, but that they will not kneel to show support for a group that is responsible for violent riots. That is the hard and "brave" stance to take. Not falling in line with BLM.
I know quite a few players. Most oppose it but are quiet for PR reasons.
The big problem is female fans and some of the guys from Toronto. They're actually really racist, a lot of players will see attacks on their black teammates from their date/girlfriend or her friends. They see that and assume there's other issues which no one talks about.
The weird thing is NCAA basketball is decently conservative/libertarian but the NBA is strictly progressive.
