I'm traveling at the moment and have some down time to watch movies On Demand.
Nothing too earth shattering, but I noticed a few woke themes that were new to me in the IPs.
I had seen the OG Joker before, but had completely forgot about Joaquin Phoenix' shoehorned delusional relationship with his single mom black tenement neighbor.
It really stuck out in a movie that was otherwise acclaimed as being representative of "incel rage". I likely wasn't as redpilled as I was now when I saw The Joker originally in 2019-2020, so I probably didn't notice it on the first run.
Still haven't seen The Joker II. All I know is that everyone else hated it and I, Hypocrite loved it, possibly as a troll.
I'd never see A Man Named Otto before with Tom Hanks, but remember the previews.
I watched the first half. It reminded me of a cleaner Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood, where a crotchety widower slowly gets won over by his DEI neighbors as they flood his white picket fence formerly White street.
Then I turned it off immediately halfway through when some pooner flyer deliverer on a bike tells Hanks that she was transgender and his dead wife HS teacher was the only one who was ever nice to her.
I remember watching A Man Named Otto and writing about it here on the board a while ago. I was expected the regular amount of PC leftist garbage but the trans thing shocked me. This guy who couldn't fathom his friend driving a different car brand or teenage workers at Loews just instantly accepts a tranny.
Joker, which I enjoy, is such a simple movie for the ruckus that surrounded it. Over a billion dollars for a pastiche of 3 Scorsese movies. And the fear of the white incel rage the media was terrified of.
The black single mother neighbor delusional love interest in The Joker at least makes some sense thematically because it is emphasized that Arthur Fleck and his equally delusional mother are struggling & poor living in Gotham's worst projects.
But I still had forgotten that the DEI love interest was completely crowbarred in there in the first place.
Then there’s the fact that it is later revealed that Arthur hallucinated all the affection with her in the first place. Which could either be considered a win against miscegenation. Or a wider commentary that a White disabled low class loser like Fleck doesn't even deserve attention from a single mother slay qween.
Overusing the adjective "woke" as an insult is no better than using it as a compliment to toot your own horn and self-identify as being holier-than-thou, wiser-than-thou, and more awakened than the people who are not also on "your side" ideologically.
