Zelensky won the election with 75% running on a platform of making peace with separatists in the Donbas who did not want to be ruled by a putschist regime. This was a month after, so he wouldn't get any idea that he was president or something - you obey the State Dept.

I got this from Mike Benz who apparently has been very good on this issue.
