What I don't understand is why the art is so basic and ugly. Is it that they can't attract any real talent anymore? I really hope it's not a stylistic choise.

Taking politics out of it completely and it's still not nice to look at. The Koreans are pumping out thousands of webtoons and manhwa weekly and they all seem to have much higher art quality.

There's just no excuse for it to be such bad quality.
