When war broke out in Ukraine, what did the women do?
They fled to Europe. To the welfare and the brothels and the dating apps. While their brothers and husbands and fathers and sons were conscripted at gunpoint and fed into the meat grinder.
The problem with female protagonists in fiction is that they destroy my suspension of disbelief simply by being female. Because when the going gets tough in real life, virtually all women revert to stereotypical female roles and behaviors in order to save themselves. So when Star Wars or Marvel or CDPR wants me to swallow some cocky girl boss as the hero, my rational brain says “this isn’t how women actually behave”.
When men say that they want attractive female protagonists, what they’re really saying is “I will tolerate a female protagonist if she is an idealized woman”. Because if the female hero isn’t idealized - if she’s just an annoying entitled cunt, same as virtually every real life woman - then why am I accepting any woman as the hero? They aren’t heroes in real life. Not in the same way as men. And that’s what is being depicted in this media.
I agree. To be fair, Witcher was never a truly "based" game series, the witches are Mary Sues and much stronger than Geralt. It was only a matter of time until they just kicked him out.
At least canonically sorcerey is a rare talent, and they're not exactly all powerful. They were mostly killed by regular humans when Radovick purged the Lodge.
