Didn't everyone shit on 2016 when it came out for precisely the same reasons? The fanbase of nuDoom and original are alrgely separate generations.

I don't recall much of that at all, but your "nudoom" reminds me of the arguments old trekkies had against "nutrek" aka Star Trek TNG when it was airing. Yet we can all appreciate the difference between those and the new garbage CBS is calling Star Trek these days.

Yeah I appreciate both for different reasons. I'm not hardcore on old doom, my big complaint on the new ones is just how neutered the chainsaw is.
