Their matriarchal tendencies are put on display to the world through the media they create, which often features overbearing mothers who, through shame, guilt, and henpecking, control the actions of the meek and neurotic men in their families. They've done it so often, it has surpassed being a trope and become a cliché long before TVTropes was a thing.
