That is because it is not about "preferences". It is about something much innately deeper. It is about life experiences.

Men have to live the hero's journey, or they are seen as less than dog shit. Every boy is on a quest to become a man.

Men see Harry Potter "struggle" and become a faux "hero" through "magic" and "birthright", and are disgusted at a primal level about the feminized weakness of the story.
