Unfortunately it doesn't count until AfD has more votes than every other party put together. It's not enough to be the biggest, you have to be bigger than the entire anti-German coalition they'll form to stop you.

The FDP Liberal Democratic Economists got like 1.7% or so in Thuringia.

To put that into perspective, if the FDP was a species, it would be put on a sewerslide watchlist and put in a cell with the cameras turned off or the recordings spoiled.
