It's pretty remarkable, thank fuck the lockdowns stopped and the bulk of the normies gave up on gaming as a hobby so the prices aren't being jacked up anymore. It's not just hard drives I've seen becoming very cheap but monitors as well which is making me keep an eye on the market, already got a hilarious clearance deal on an ugly gaming mouse that nobody wanted as a replacement for my current one. Very surprised at how even 2k monitors are becoming quite reasonable in price with a high refresh rate as well and those used to be fucking expensive back in the day if anyone remembers.

Maybe I should upgrade some stuff. The games I play are usually pretty easy to run on a medium level laptop but having a good monitor and mouse wouldn't hurt. One day I'll probably upgrade to a good desktop but until then I can ride with my laptop.
Certain hardware like monitors and mice have reached a peak-level of affordability and quality in the last... 3-8 years, give or take.
Monitors were in a weird spot for a while, where it seemed just out of reach to min-max for optimal quality, but some newer and reasonably cost effective tech-innovations seem to have address a lot of those issues.
It probably also helps that consumers have been adopting 4k enough to broaden the market so that 2k displays can slide down to the mid-tier on price, while sacrificing very little on display quality (at least for the majority of gamers).
Personally I stay away from NVME drives, they still get too hot and won't last the test of time, for gaming purposes SATA speeds are way more than enough.
It's just nice being able to browse through tech sites and not cringe at the pricing anymore, even if I can't afford a full high end rig I could potentially get a second PC to do rendering on while I game on my other PC, there are options now.
I found a 32", 2k monitor in the open-box bin for $100. Steal of a find, but it ended up costing almost a grand.
