I'm not saying story is a bad thing. It's not, but it seems like a lot of devs focus so heavily on coming up with an engaging story and good visuals that they forget to actually make the game fun to play.
I think about some of the games I've played over the years, and a lot of my favorites either had fairly limited or even downright absurd plots that basically boil down to an excuse to make the gameplay loop happen.
Just a random musing.
Yes and it is a bad thing because it's not just the fact that the writing is lazy the gameplay is lazy as well. It's a meme these days about how most modern games are just glorified walking simulators. Every single time when I see an AAA title it's often bullshit cinematics with either actual QTE or they have you press a button to continue the cutscene and it's usually some cringey fight scene but sometimes it's not even that sometimes it's something as simple as turning a wheel.
I wouldn't even mind the cinematics quite so much if I could sit back and enjoy them but game developers insist on pretending they're making interactive movies. What's worse is the normies praise them for it, which is why they're so brain dead and deserve to be mocked.
oh god, don't get me started on QTEs... If I wanna play ddr, I'll get the fucking mats out and play ddr...
Yeah, people argued with me before but I don't know what else to call it, it's not 'technically' a QTE depending on how they've done it and you don't even fail depending. However the fact that it's there and I can't skip it pisses me off.
