So, came across a video on the Trump assassination ("Why the Trump Shooting is Much Worse Than You Think) and decided to take look at it. And what did Google do? Attached one of their little "Disinformation" blurbs to it. Saying:
Wikipedia • On March 30, 1981, then President of the United States Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded by John Hinckley Jr. in Washington, D.C., as he was returning to his limousine after a speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton.
Internet Archive capture of the note, and a ton of comments on the video refer it as well.
The real purpose of those misinfo boxes is to push the like and subscribe buttons below the fold. It sounds silly but if you have to scroll to click something, the rate at which people do it falls off a cliff. This lowers the engagement metric on youtube and thus limits how much the algorithm will promote it.
This is not accidental or unintentional. The entire company is based around engagement rates. They know what they're doing and they're doing it on purpose. But it launders the censorship enough to give them plausible deniability in a future congressional hearing.
