The difference is you consented to the steam sign in by, wait for it, buying it on steam. The epic games account is being forced on people who bought it on steam without warning, consent, or even being necessary, as EDF 5's online worked just fine without it. Why should some third party company have any sort of control over the games I bought on steam? It would be just as stupid if the epic games store version forced a steam login.

Why should steam have any control over games you bought on steam? If I buy a physical game off amazon I don't have to sign in to my amazon account to use it. Same goes for GoG.
Steam got started by pulling the exact same shit as this with HL2. So, while I agree that requiring two accounts is even dumber than requiring one, complaining about this while buying the game on steam is moronic.
People would be complaining even if they knew about it before hand like all the other games that required it.
I haven't heard people kick up a fuss about all the bad software Lethn mentioned that's secretly stuck in games, without a mention on store pages either.
True but the backlash is worse because it wasnt made known beforehand. That they waited until 6 hours after release gives the impression they were trying to sneak it in because they knew people would be upset if they knew ahead of time. If more people were aware of the shit being snuck into games these days i'm sure there would be an equal shitstorm abut that too.
Does it require a steam sign in? then demand that gets removed too.

If you want digital games that aren't tied to an account, you have few options like GoG or torrents.
There are old-ish games on abandonware websites too.
Not forgetting console emulation and ROMs.
All your games bought on Steam are linked to your Steam account though.
