No dissident is in the position to get into an armed standoff with the government. We are not at the point in the west where people feel like they must stake their lives on taking a stand and therefore there will be no support network that dissidents can fall back on for the forseeable future. These "I'd have shot them!" larps are gay and amount to little more than a virtue signal.
At the very least I would have run them off my property at gun point. If they acted threateningly, or I felt my life was in danger, I'd blow their heads off.

Scaring people is a failed half measure. They'll still put you in prison for life, but without you sending a real message that you will not be ruled.
