I think one of the things that unfortunately is missed in a lot of films I see about D-Day is WHY Omaha beach the worst was just how much went wrong the biggest being no Tanks.
Fat Electrican went over Hobart's 'funnies' as their presence literally made the casualty rate get halved in comparison to Omaha. It is briefly mentioned in Saving Private Ryan but easily missed.
Yes those Churchills and Shermans allowing engineers to focus on clearing stuff, while also giving German defenders something to shoot at that wasn't another soldier was quite helpful.
