Frankly I don't see a problem here. She wasn't a whistleblower - She was actively working against her own company in the name of "truthiness" because she felt they weren't doing enough to give small papers (her papers, btw) more money while claiming that the money they had already given was a success.
I'm no fan of Gannett but it sounds to me that she was trying to increase her power base in the company and they whacked her.
