They're behaving as any people should: seeking to dominate the place that they're in. I don't fault them at all. It is those who lack thumos who are the abnormal ones. The German State is ruled by those with that abnormal mindset, like this Faeser (who has had, possibly still has, associations with Far-Left groups): let in everyone but those who do not abide by Left-liberalism (viz. those calling for a caliphate, on the one hand, and Germans who cannot keep up with where Left-liberalism has reached, who chiefly support the AfD, on the other), who must be eliminated if they are already within the country. Political Islam and the classical liberalism of the AfD both pose the same problem to Left-liberalism: the latter is the same ideology a few decades to centuries (depending on the issue at hand) removed, and thus threatens to reverse for a time liberalism's progression, and the former is in some respects outside of the liberal paradigm entirely. Things thus 'regress' or 'go backward' if either ideology grows stronger, hence the German State's opposition to both.
