We've gone so far that people don't even recognize that incel is an abbreviation for "involuntary celibate."
You can't be an incel if you are deliberately rejecting temptation and sin. And if you aren't doing that, then there is no morality and purity at play, just a lonely man failing in a terrible world.
I think that the term "volcel" exists for men who just aren't interested for whatever reason. Some people think they are incels who have given up, but the term sounds like it's meant to be closer to MGTOW in spirit.
It was always meant to separate out men who are not pursuing sex for reasons beyond the norm. Such as those with vows of chastity, like a priest. It rarely had an legitimate use because those types are rare to begin with and wouldn't be in those circles if they were.
Anyone who self-identifies as a volcel is almost entirely coping and couldn't pull pussy if he tried anyway, making him an incel with extra steps.
I do think some people who dislike MGTOW see them as the same as how you see those who call themselves volcels. That being said, I don't deny there are some men (including on this site) who just aren't interested in relationships for more understandable reasons.
I think that is basically what MGTOW is and has always been, incels trying to larp as volcels. Even if your reasons are logical and reasonable, if you couldn't if you tried then it ceases to be voluntary.
I've spoken to many, as I used to spend a lot of time in the "manosphere," and the vast majority were simply incels trying to dress up themselves with a better suit. And granted, most of them were doing great things and were leagues better than just a regular incel in terms of capability and contentment, but definitionally they were still as they were.
The only exception was the large contingent of divorced men, who probably could get women if they tried but were too damaged by their trauma and wanted to be out. And I don't blame them.
