Probably when Reddit began to become it's own thought police.
Get enough of they/them or (((them))) controlling the boards, and suddenly, you have no free expression if they don't like what you say, regardless of the subreddit rules. They will gather together to stamp you out.
Remember: Gislaine Maxwell was a mod of dozens of subreddits. Her account went dark the second she was in jail.
Ellen Pao said she knew Gislaine was at tightly controlled guest list event/party she got invited to, and knew of the child sex operation, but was more concerned about not being photographed with her.
If Digg didn't fuck up, then Digg would've become exactly what Reddit is today.
