Even ignoring all the other politics and ideas it was doomed.
Arkham Knight gave us a definitive end, and bringing Batman back from that was a bad idea period. Gotham Knights showed the only possible continuation idea they could have gone with from that end and it sucked ass.
So from the word go, the very concept was destined to fail. That's why you don't try to milk an IP after you've ended it, people will prefer to keep it ended.
Was a definite end to Batman but was a potential beginning for a Batman Beyond game. Fans have been screaming for a for years but with the release of this diseased rat of a game, they have all given up.
They were making that one, it got cancelled for Gotham Knights instead. There was a bunch of leaked concept art for the Beyond game from WB Montreal before they got focused entirely on GK.
And I think the concept art released speaks as to why it got canned. It was happening at the same time as WB's big push for Harley to be their mascot and main seller, while WBM wanted to turn her into a decrepit and broken old lady after all the years of toxins and ass beatings.
Personally I think Beyond is too volatile a product to make at this point. Its fanbase is extremely devoted and think incredibly highly of it, which is a bad recipe in this "culture war" where any wrong step could have a wave of cancel heavy attacks destroying your game. And that's from either side, because comic book fans (and those downstream of them like DCAU fans) are notorious for their demands of adaptations and loud screams when they fall short of the envisioned "masterpiece" that it should have been.

Just my opinion on that though.
