Man do I WISH they were a threat, it'd be less incentive to target them by the federal and establishment.
Notice how they don't go after the Muslims as hard, why? Because they're a militised religion with high in-group preference and willing to have members go dark to commit attacks. The Christians and right are more solo wolf and while their attacks can be extremely devastating when done (remembers Oklahoma) it's easier to target them as they are isolated.
If Evangelicals copy the same tactics and basically go full Templar/Crusader, that'll probably terrify the establishment since they now have a foreign religious domestic threat AND a homegrown threat in an era that recruitment is down across ALL authorities.
Just for clarity, not justifying terrorism, I'm saying that the government should fear retaliation for persecution of faith.

Bold of you to assume the current regime wouldn’t double down and genocide any group that pushes back too hard
They'd LOVE to but put it this way, with the resources and LOYAL manpower they have, any action they try might backfire HARD.
