In the past America was divided between sensible, mean people (republicans) and sensible, nice people (democrats). By mean I'm thinking of like "you'll never be a woman" and "get a fucking job deadbeat".

Dr. Phil has always been a sensible, mean person. So if you were basically nice you didn't like Dr. Phil because 'he's such a jerk'. The divide was nice vs mean.

Now the divide is sensible vs insane. So sensible nice people are saying, yeah I don't really care anymore that Dr. Phil is a big meanie because he's making sense.
