I think what most people fail to understand is that this isn't a Harvard thing. This is endemic to every last corner of the American Academy and is a direct result of policies around loans and administration requirements.
If Harvard was able to get away with really shoddy plagiarism, this should throw every university and researcher's credentials into question.
When the Harvard brand means less, the rest of society stands to gain.
