I have been thinking about finally upgrading to a PS5 or Xbox Series X. However, consoles usually only last 5 years before the next generation comes out. Granted, the 8th lasted 7 or 8 years, and the 9th was hurt by the COVID lockdown... But the 9th Gen consoles came out in 2020. If the consoles follow the past pattern then there is only 1 more year till PS6 and Xbox whatever comes out. Hell, the Switch came out in 17 or 18 and I have heard rumors that Nintendo is getting ready to unveil the Switch 2. Has there been any word of Microsoft and Sony developing their next consoles yet?

I feel like the games industry is an absolute slump right now overall and I agree with other people there's probably a major collapse on the way. I also don't know why people think that consoles are a good deal because in most cases they're not. The pricing is a bit deceptive in my view, sure consoles are technically 'cheaper' but it's closed source garbage you can't really use for much else then when you add on the cost of games ( Which are very pricey for what they are ) it works out the same as a PC anyway.
If I were to go to a console-esque route I would definitely pick the steam deck and that's something that's on my list because it's not closed source and you can install Windows on it and use it like a regular desktop. Combine that with the steam deck dock and you have an incredibly versatile machine compared to regular consoles and you'll be able to mostly play whatever you want. Basically my main argument is, why would you get any of these consoles when the steam deck exists as an option?
It better collapse. And eradicate every IP, publisher and studio along with it. Only Indies will survive because they have no studio or publisher. Especially Sony, nintendont and Microsoft
