And with that, AI improved the dub tenfold.
I still prefer Japanese VAs and it subbed, their voices just sounded better. It's once in a blue moon I get English VAs that sound good enough to listen too, think the last one was My dress up darling funnily enough. Anyway this is just more incentive for more AI and to fire localisers which ironically if fully done probably shuts down Sony's California division, if they weren't so compromised.
It seems like the English VAs don't even try to convey emotions through their voices, all they do are accents.
Japanese VA industry is highly competitive and go through the same tough voice acting schools and auditions like live actors, English va are mostly Hollywood waitress/actress rejects that got the job because their buddy owns the localization company
Even the best Japanese VAs fail most of their auditions. Yuki Kaji, who his peers tease him for having 'main character' syndrome b/c he voiced a lot of protagonists, said he failed over 90% of his auditions. It's that competitive.
