I remember a few years after WiFi became available chatting with a friend over AIM and him mentioning he was in the bathroom with his laptop. That was the first time I'd even considered that sort of thing a possibility.
A couple years later friends got into the habit of AIM chatting with each other while in the same room, which I didn't like because why wouldn't you just talk to each other you're in the same room for god's sake.
Nowadays I find it difficult to just sit down and watch a movie uninterrupted without also fucking around on my computer. So it's not just a phone thing. OTOH hand for a programming project I can sit down and work on it for 10+ hours to the point where I forget to turn the light on when it gets dark. So it's not a "destroyed concentration" thing either.
