I'm not familiar with the Baldur's Gate franchise but it seemed like a lot of people went in expecting a game less horny than what they got.
The original Baldur's Gate was a masterpiece. It was very similar in tone and storytelling to Peter Jackson's original trilogy of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
A somewhat grim-dark fantasy world -- but depicted with more violence/gore than The Lord of the Rings. I loved the original game, as it was very serious and mature in how it handled its story and quests, and the fact that characters could perma-die ensured that you played smart and made wise decisions.
Then BioWare mucked everything up with Baldur's Gate 2. It offered more side-quests but was far more linear in how you progressed through the game. The large open-maps and design of the first game (which more closely resembled a much smaller version of Jagged Alliance 2's map) were replaced with more segmented and linear map progression, and they instituted the worst thing to infect gaming: romance.
The romance wasn't good, but it sparked a trend in BioWare games that has infected every other RPG since.
Leftists have utilised the romance trend in gaming to heavily push their Rainbow Reich nonsense under the guise of "diversity" and "inclusion". Baldur's Gate 3 took that concept to its logical end almost to a point of parody, where every potential party member you meet seems to instantly want to hop into bed with your character for no other reason than that you're the player-character. It's nonsensical and ridiculous, but it's an easy way for Lefties to lure players into accepting more of the Left's fetishes and normalising degenerate behaviours.
Baldur's Gate 3's romances were so ridiculous, though, that even some normies found it to be a bit too much. But because the game has received such glowing reviews -- much like how Baldur's Gate 2 set the trend for awful romances in CRPGs -- Baldur's Gate 3 will have even more degenerate Rainbow fetishes pushed into all RPGs.
They toned down how quickly it happened a few patches ago. Apparently settings were wrong and resulted in overly fast romances. It's pretty easy to avoid in general now.

Are there any mods yet to reduce or eliminate romances from BG3?
