I think this is a partial side effect of the feminization of society. I have noticed that modern women (plus children and men who think like women) view their little domains as under their absolute rule. This can also explain the explosion in tricksters and reality warpers in fiction, and Mary Sues. The idea that something outside their little bubbles of reality could invade doesn't occur to them. Being treated like daddy's princess, protected by the state, and having absolute control over relationships and the dating market via dating apps and society enabling the worst of female behavior.
