The whole point of crypto is to not have intermediaries like the gov and banks so it's fucking ridiculous to propose a digital currency issued by the gov. There's literally no difference from a user standpoint. Even coming from a "simplicity" argument, there's no difference between doing a typical e-transfer and exchanging a government issued e-currency because the digital wallets will be offered through banks. Like I'm no expert but the only reason I see for doing this is control and if it isn't, they sure did a shit job explaining it.

Japan tried to roll out negative rates. And everyone withdrew their savings into cash.
Without cash…. The central bankers are free to steal from you forever.
