They lack critical thinking skills. I believe this is because they were raised with access to any given information at any given time.
I've been hearing this for 20 years, but no one can explain why. Well, I can provide a clue:
To critically evaluate a new piece of information you have to have a base body of knowledge to compare it to. Do you think someone who memorized their multiplication tables up through 12x12 will be able to critically evaluate a claim that 9 times 9 is 56? Yes, they can, because they have the knowledge to critically evaluate the claim.
Now, the million dollar question: Are primary schools giving children this knowledge base any more?
NO
This is intentional.
Informed critical thinkers are unfit to work on assembly lines, which is where the founders of compulsory education wanted the vast majority of people to work.
I was in university, 2016-2020, and I felt like a fucking superhero with the level of general knowledge on history, geography, and politics I possessed. Almost everyone around me were idiots.
That is absolutely wild. Eighth grade being 13-14 years old, nowadays there’s simply no way a test would be that in depth or require that many free form, non-multiple choice answers.

And then you look back to what your great-great-grandparents knew...
