I linked a review just for people to watch the gameplay, I have no idea if it is a good or bad review I didn't watch it.
I rarely go out of my way to recommend a game since I play so few but this is a weird little gem that I ended up 100% finishing, something I haven't done since whenever Super Meat Boy came out.
This is from Annapurna, who did the walking simulators Edith Finch and Stray which I both somewhat enjoyed. Good to play stoned but not exactly exciting.
I wasn't super excited about this but a friend kept bugging me to try it and it turns out to be exceptionally fun.
No woke shit, no fat, no shortcuts...this is a well designed game that people put a lot of love into. The voice acting is excellent, the writing is above expected, the story is somewhat interesting.
But man on man the mechanics...they are as tight as you can ask for. Nothing feels unfair, the levels go by at breakneck pace and precision is required at every moment, there are hundreds if not thousands of possible ways to finish a level.
And the best: the level design. Super interesting, varied, tons of unique approaches to the designs. Really beautiful and simple looking.
Overall an extremely pleasant game you can play for short spurts or hours with no difference in enjoyment. Really a throwback to older games.
I'm not a speedrunner nor do I watch that shit but I imagine this game would be popular for people who enjoy that stuff. Personally I just found it to be extremely well made and thoroughly enjoyable without any bullshit.
A rarity.
I don’t think I’ve ever despised normie gamers more than when Stray blew up.
It isn't really a game, same with Edith Finch. Just wandering around and looking at stuff with some relatively linear action sequences and mild puzzles.
Good if you aren't looking for a challenge, but I wouldn't call either of them games. It isn't a surprise that people who love phone games latched onto something like Stray.
