I once got in trouble at work for citing a graduate level textbook on stereotype accuracy in response to a diversity seminar that made blanket statements like "stereotypes are bad".
Turns out that isn't true, but it took a long time for sociologists to actually study it because they had always assumed "stereotypes bad" and therefore never thought to study whether or not what they were saying was actually true.
I would love to read that paper.
Stereotype Accuracy: One of the Most Replicable Effects in All of Social Psychology, from the Handbook of Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination (which despite the name doesn't actually teach you to do those things better).
