Washington State’s Office of Equity, established by Governor Jay Inslee (D-WA) in April 2020, recently came under scrutiny for sending an email to state employees that contained an incendiary quote from Stokely Carmichael, an activist and author.
It’s potentially based. Depends on what argument follows from it. Does “if he’s got the power to lynch me, that’s my problem” entail a recognition of the need for self-defense, or the importance of community, and behavior that creates a good reputation? Or does it entail “ergo, disarm and disempower all people who could conceivably desire to lynch someone; assume the desire to lynch is always evil and never justified and work from there”?
