Interesting anecdote: I was watching a current affairs program recently where a famous woke Australian journalist (Charles Woolley) was visiting remote northwestern Australia, and was out camping with an Indigenous tour guide…
So he asks him about the Voice. The tour guide responds, saying he doesn’t think it will help him, or his people, in any way, and that he just wants to be an Australian, treated the same as anyone else.
Woolley, unsatisfied with this answer, then demands that the Aboriginal man recognize that the importance of the Voice vote is for “white men” like Woolley to be able to alleviate “their historical guilt”, and to “feel that [they] have done the right thing”. Then they get into an argument, and the editor cuts away…
That’s what this is all about. That’s what my own parents believe, too… It’s not about “justice”, it’s about guilt. And once again, just like with Covid, I am aghast…
