Without a sort of pre-existing "tribal identity" (playing with friends) you are practically doomed to build until someone kills and robs you or you somehow find a way to be difficult enough to kill that you gather people under your banner - but then someone will unfailingly betray you and it's back to square one, killed and robbed.
