A heavy police presence descended on the street fair quickly, Dublin said, but as of Sunday morning the Portland Police Bureau has released no information about what led to the panic. No spokesperson for the bureau works on Sundays, and no one from the bureau has responded to a request for information on Sunday morning.
I can't get over this part. What the fuck?
Dublin said she spoke with a security guard at the event and learned that a stabbing followed by at least one gunshot sparked the fear and confusion, although she said she did not hear a gunshot. A man with a stab wound snaked through the crowd, fleeing medical attention, she said. Police then cordoned off streets near the fair.
Landsverk and Baker said the commotion happened near the stage closer to 8:05 p.m., not 7:45 p.m. Two other people near the street fair who did not want their names published separately said they heard at least 10 gunshots around 8:15 p.m., and it wasn’t clear if those were connected to the earlier incident.
Carey Deza, treasurer of the Historic Mississippi Business Association that operates the fair, said Sunday she had no information about the incident.
“The whole rest of the day was great,” Deza said.
So one of the reasons I'm posting this is because I was at this event, it is a popular street fair in one of the few 'safe' areas of the city. The reason this journalist and the police are straight up lying about what happened is because the local journos are trying to pretend lots of violence in 'safer' areas isn't happening.
There was probably 30-40 shots fired and I personally saw two people bleeding from stab wounds. It was something gang related. It is so bizarre to see the police and journalist both minimalize what happened (a STAMPEDE OF PEOPLE fleeing gunfire) and even quote the organizer saying that everything is fine.
So is Portland so compromised that there's no longer any 'safe' areas anymore?
Usually in cities the richer districts have enough of a police presence to dissuade people from starting issues. Is there such a breakdown that even that has gone and we're better just Arkham City walling the entire city in?

The question is... are there any rich areas left in portland? If you're rich why would you stay in portland?
The rich areas are the suburbs. Nothing left inside the city.
