Gotta agree with this. Tech was always libertarian-leaning apolitical dudes, but around GamerGate you had this intense social pressure/harassment to fall in lockstep socially or face extreme ostracism (or firing). You couldn't even talk neutrally about the topic of pay-for-play in games journalism because even discussing the topic in those terms faced the implicit threat coming from the Sarkeesian-types of harassment/sexism allegations. The message at that point was clear, fall in line or get out.

Much like the Covid-19 shit, it doesn't matter how smart you are if you are an emotionally weak person you can get socially coerced into adopting even transparently ridiculous views.

Just to signal boost good game developers, there's Kvltgames (see their Odysee) who are producing a cyberpunk/dystopian platformer game.
