It was just an example of it still mattering to have something people will watch and that it takes more than just pure politics to exist. I think they fucked up bad casting a tranny actor though, that's the sort of thing that's a no-win situation unless you're making something detached from a franchise that is specifically about a tranny. There was backlash from announcing it, there would be backlash if it's canceled, and it will have an uncanny valley affect for viewers, all for free publicity from some rags that would run an article for what's effectively pocket change.
The worldbuilding is already fucked, they're past the point of no return, and IMO that's even worse for a franchise than beating the audience over the face with a political hammer because it's even harder to recover from ruining the logic and coherency of an IP compared to just making products which are shitty on their own without contaminating everything around them.
I don't think the worldbuilding is fucked because the whole "high republic" thing could always be scraped and whoever succeeds KK could focus on the old republic era
It goes beyond just the issue of the high republic, they've completely changed how hyperspace works which causes problems in a wide variety of situations, they've introduced insane force powers into the films such as force necromancy, anything that takes place after TROS has to account for the fact that the firepower of a deathstar has become so miniaturized that it's feasible to create a fleet of planet killing star destroyers, force lightning can take out entire fleets, there are a wide variety of armor materials suitable to be worn now, it's now possible to create force powered clones, and plenty of other things I'm neglecting to mention.
Disney have managed to kill off the EU adopt all the worst practices of the EU into their mainline entries and never established a system of cannon similar to that which was previously created by Lucas to define what over rules what to keep alive a cohesive universe that at least mostly made sense.
But with a transvestite in the lead role, Star Wars is just done... not only a transvestite but a fucking youtuber of all things... and not only a youtuber but an insufferable prick... there is no other way around it, Lucasfilm did it on purpose...
I disagree about the IP being done, the tranny taint is isolated in whatever entries include it, the worst damage it can do is establish degenerate cultural norms to be a thing in star wars, but that doesn't ruin the ability for engaging storytelling. It's Disney shitting in the mouth of their consumers, but it's more of a meta shit in the mouth of the consumer.
