Here is the context I posted in the thread on c/emus (new community, check it out!):
The exception to the title obviously being the Wii’s infrared detector bar system, which the gun4IR system is effectively taking and building on, by using 4 IR leds positioned around the screen, and custom software running on a PCB embedded in the (custom made) lightguns.
There is also the Sinden system, which works by drawing a white border around your screen and performing trig calculations to determine where you were aiming your (custom made) lightgun. Based on comparisons I’ve seen (haven’t tested either), the Sinden system is a lot more finicky and just overall worse. Still it’s great that people are reigniting this scene, as I love gungames and think they’re basically peak arcade/vidya
