I imagine a lot of you are probably familiar with Metatron, but if you aren't he's been on youtube for almost a decade now, making primarily very detailed and well-researched historical videos. Almost 750k subs, and over 800 videos during that time.
Couple days ago, Youtube decided to fully remove all monetization from his channel (his (extremely naive IMO) video on this is here).
Personally, I think it is obvious why this happened. Two weeks ago, he made this video pointing out that the ancient Greeks were, in fact, not actually pro-gay which got over 1 million views. And a week ago he made this other video talking about how the black Cleopatra thing was rubbish and that there were better choices to pick from if they wanted black warrior queens which got over 500k views.
And then his channel suddenly just loses all monetization? Such a strange coincidence!
I think it's more like,
"I don't want to move to <alternative site> because I'm a weak and lazy creature of habit and uncomfortable with change, plus I don't really care if someone I agree with gets booted from Youtube so long as I can still watch stuff."
Yeah, I think that's their true mentality, even if you disregard the reeeeing about Nazis in reality they will keep coming up with excuses not to do something and they are just lazy. When dealing with the normie market, you have to keep in mind how fucking lazy these people really are, this is why I like gamers more.
You see this in the attitude of steam fanbois as an example and this will perhaps be a controversial example. They sit there bitching about the platform constantly and claim they don't like DRM. Will they look at any other alternative and even check it out? No, in a lot of cases they won't, because steam offers convenience and familiarity and this is why the monopolies are maintained.
It's important to remember the kind of people you're dealing with in this aspect. The signup process as to be as straightforward as anything which I think at times sites kind of disguise their layouts to be very similar to well known websites because that's what people are familiar with.
This is a reason I hate normies and I hate the idea of designing/coding anything for them but if you know how they think and how lazy they are that lets you understand how to attract them as customers. They need to be spoon fed shit or they won't come. It's because of normies that stuff like TikTok and short form videos are doing so well now and it's because they're lazy fucks who won't take even 10 minutes out of their day if it's unfamiliar because they view anything weird as foreign and frightening. They're very much the tech equivalent of xenophobes and you have to work along those lines and that goes for any kind of foreign idea they're not used to exploring in political discussion as well.
