I think they shouldn't change any race, white to black or black to white, but it'd be less objectionable if they actually acted like it didn't matter (and picked the man for the job), as opposed to wanting to make as many characters black as possible.

No such thing in film & theatre. Casting directors always cast on opinion, and more often than not engage in nepotism. Additionally, you can always find someone that matches the source material perfectly. Not doing so is a deliberate act.
