I know it's a bit bad form to mock a child's appearance, but screw your optics, I'm going in!
There are good looking black people. But these raceswaps always pick the most mutant-looking fuckers they can find, it seems like. It's not enough to take an existing character and make them black, they seem to have to take an existing character and make them black and ugly. Now, it's a little different here, as I believe this is a stage production (perhaps she's a really talented singer, I don't know!), not a movie, but the point still stands.
Honestly, next time you’re watching TV, pay attention to the kids in commercials. It must be some kind of trend to cast only the weirdest looking children in anything, even ads, and preferably ones where the combination of their weird looks and stylistic choices like clothes and hair makes them look completely genderless.
It’s just the going thing right now. It’s not as blatant as the apparent requirement that every female adult role be filled by a shambling fatass with a bizarre skin condition, but the goofy androgynous kid casting is quietly on the rise. Ones that stand out in my mind are the “what’s a computer?” girl and the kid from a recent commercial where a dad turns a shed into a giant version of the kid’s favorite snow globe. I don’t even remember what the ad was selling, but then I also could never figure out if the kid was a boy or girl.

I don't watch TV, so I don't see ads. That said, I totally believe it; there's obviously a push to uglify and mutate the kids. It's especially sad to see it in real life. If you're ever driving in a town when kids are getting off school busses, or you drive past a college or something...IRL young peeople are uglifying themselves, and it's really sad. It's so much weirder than past cliques such as even emos or goths. Bad haircuts in bright colors, problem glasses, very fat. They're doing it on purpose, and I'm pissed off that this has been pushed on our society. And as you said, one of the 'in things' seems to be to look as androgynous as possible.

The people pushing this are demons.
