really telling that this is where people draw the line.
In fairness, it's MUCH more embarrassing to have your porn history leaked than "I bought a gun" or "I bought an ecig" or "I bought alcohol." Of those examples the gun registry is probably the only one that's a big problem because it's something that tyrants can use, but people have a harder time conceptualizing that risk (and a much easier time conceptualizing the risk of "bad guy with gun"). Whereas everyone can conceptualize and see the risk of "someone finds out I watch porn."
Also, the implicit implication of the user youre responding to is that people objecting to this for privacy reasons do not also object to those other things for similar reasons, which is definitely not the case. Just because something is the status quo doesn't mean you can just assume people are cool with it.
We know that ID verification will have to be stored somewhere and it will be hacked and leaked as a "perverts database". If anything, Governments are hoping on it happening because it will be easier to put people off accessing porn if they fear the consequence of everyone knowing their private consumption than it would be to ban it outright, not just for underage individuals.
