It was written as a BDSM Easter egg joke. But, the new origin stories are fucked. One has her mother raped by a god, the other had her mother hate fucking a god.
What was so wrong with creates out of clay with love?!
I was unaware of that retcon of her origin. It’s a shame, that origin was one of the best parts of her. Thinking about it, it’s not surprising that it was changed. The original version implies that a powerful warrior queen might feel unhappy without a child, might want a child, or might find motherhood to be fulfilling, or her greatest gift or accomplishment. That’s fundamentally at odds with their “children are burdens, motherhood will ruin you, don’t find value in being a mother or wife, pursue a career instead” messaging.
I guess I can see that given how reflexively the woke hate Christian imagery, but taking the life-creating act of God in Genesis and giving it to Zeus through Hippolyta seems, if anything, closer to blasphemy than Christianity. Not that I’d seriously argue for that position either; it just seems a little silly to take the position that it’s too Christian.
On the other hand, they’re waging an ideological war of extinction. Maybe they’re strategically correct to ignore context and simply scour away anything that even slightly bears resemblance.
They changed who she was as a person by giving her two parents rather than being made from one with love. The fact that it failed the first time didn't stop them from doing it again.

I read that it was too close to the Genesis story for the woke.
