I would assume that any internet platform that offers Direct/Private messages between users has the ability to access those messages. Who doesn't know this?
While the site does, they still need to hand them over to the government. Most sites still pretend like they aren't just openly giving them up for free, and still require some amount of warrant before they do so.
So its not really surprising, its confirming what was obvious but not 102% certain.
