I am on on a Star Wars Legends (EU) facebook group and I recently learned about a legends convention they are doing in California in September. I am going to try to go but not sure if I'll be able to. Totally separate from Disney which is good but it is a shame that it had to be this way. To think I thought Disney buying Star Wars and Marvel was a good thing when I first heard about it.
There will be some EU authors there and other guests I think. I really wish Disney would just sell the rights to the EU canon to someone else so that they can have someone who is interested in writing stories within that universe. Or allow like an animated adaptation of NJO or Heir to the Empire. If you haven't seen it, check out what Darth Angelus has done on youtube with his Heir to the Empire animated adaption. Sucks that he can't get paid for it and I fear Disney will do what Star Trek did. I guess they are intimidated by fans who have better story ideas than they do.
When they first bought Star Wars I said I’d give it a chance. I read the aftermath books and they were terrible. A trilogy of books that take place after ROTJ and the main characters are barely in it so he can have his gay and non binary characters. And the female character of course happened to visit her lesbian aunt. I’ve heard High Republic is the typical checking boxes storytelling that Disney puts out.
I have noticed sites like Screenrant praising the EU now as well as others. But they were one of the many to crap on the EU when Disney got rid of it.
While stories that revolve around non film characters are a thing pre-Disney, I agree that it's being done here for political reasons.
Check who is running it.
Seems to be legit fans but I’ll double check.
