that obviously hasn't worked out for a multitude of reasons.

Russia under Putin wanted to join NATO and/or make a NATO like alternative with Russia in it. NATO refused.
So Russia looked elsewhere while NATO continued to encroach on Russia's neighbouring countries more and more.

China would fuck up North Korea if they ever think about uniting with SK and allow US troops like SK does. The US fucked up Cuba for getting close to the Soviets.
Russia fucks up Ukraine when they get too close to NATO.

Everyone with half a brain knew this was going to happen. Yet somehow it was still pursued.
