What most people consider acceptable is simply whatever appears "normal" to them, based on whatever their peers, people online, or those on the TV are doing. It's how Hollywood exported their version of "American culture" and changed the entire Western world in a few decades. Leftists can easily maintain their cult by indoctrination, normalization, and silencing opposing points of view of those who do hold enough independent thought to speak up. Once those evil outsiders are gone, most people will see no reason not to accept whatever they're pushing because that's what "everyone" left is doing. The fact that they do this with children is particularly insidious, but a natural outcome of their cult's power. Get 'em while they're young.
It reminds me of how quickly abortion became normalized after the Roe v Wade decision. Did you know that pre-Roe v Wade, abortion was only legal without extenuating circumstances (threat to mother's life, rape, incest) in five states? Quite the cultural shift after the Supreme Court forced that one through.
Same for gay marriage. They ran four consecutive referendums in Maine before it was finally pushed through. Then once Maine fell the rest fell in line within a few years. Gay marriage was very unpopular with normies as late as the early 2000s, but by 2010 the media declared the public debate to be over.
I also see some NPR effect here. They will say the most insane things but in such a banal, sensible tone that it tricks some brains into accepting it as normal without really interrogating what is being said.
