I don't think it's "worship" so much as it is ownership. Feminism basically induced androphobia in entire generations of women, so women's relationship with masculinity is all sorts of scuffed. The gay best friend allows a woman to have a "pet" man without any of the masculinity she's so afraid of, and the flaming homo gets to induldge in being a stereotype drama queen, which naturally feeds back into women's impulse towards cattiness. The drag queen phenomenon is just that, on crack.
